Race For Life - 16th Jun 2008

DRH agreed to sponsor team t shirts for any staff member that had volunteered to raise money for Cancer Research by taking part in the annual Race For Life event. Staff chose the color and design of the t shirts!
Pictured below are some of the brave volunteers who ran/walked/staggered the 3 miles around the cross country course.

Communication - 23rd May 2008

Following on from our recent work with the Human Givens approach, we agreed that a fundamental issue to meeting a person’s Human needs was ensuring that we have effective communication strategies in place.
We agreed that a separate group was needed to look at this topic and held our first working group last week. This group will work on the following agenda:

• To identify the range of communication styles currently used by service users within DRH

• To identify a range of augmentative and alternative communication styles and other approaches (e.g. Intensive Interaction) that may have the potential to enable our service users to better meet their basic human needs

• To identify skill deficits in relation to strengthening communication

• To develop a strategy which will significantly improve communication with service users, and optimise opportunities to meet basic human needs and quality of life.

Foresters Upgrade - 14th Feb 2008

We have recently agreed the funding for the upgrade of Foresters. Work will commence in March to add an additional two bedrooms with en suite and overhead hoists plus en suites to other existing bedrooms. This upgrade will eliminate current shared rooms and provide single rooms for all service users at Foresters.
